1. Booking Your First Class:
Before you don your dobok (uniform), check the school's website for trial packages. At Worcestershire Martial Arts, all classes, including trials, require pre-booking. It's a simple step that sets the tone for your commitment.
2. What to Bring:
Prepare a small kit for your first class:
- Hydration: Pack plenty of water to stay refreshed.
- Medication: If needed, ensure you have your necessary medications.
- Attire: Opt for comfortable workout clothes—think t-shirt and tracksuit bottoms. Remember, you'll train barefoot, so leave your shoes outside the training area.
- Early Arrival: Arrive a bit early to introduce yourself to the instructor and let them know you're a beginner.
3. Fitness and Flexibility:
Don't fret if you're not a fitness guru or yoga master. Beginner classes are designed for everyone, regardless of their fitness level or flexibility. However, it's essential to communicate any existing medical conditions to the instructor before training begins.
4. Safety First:
Worcestershire Martial Arts prioritises the safety and comfort of its students. While martial arts involve a level of contact, rest assured that instructors are fully trained first aiders, ready to respond to any unforeseen situations.
5. Prior Experience:
If you have prior martial arts experience, contact the instructor in advance. At Worcestershire Martial Arts, colour belt and black belt students with ITF rank certificates are recognised. However, grade recognition is individually assessed.
6. Instructor Credentials:
Knowing your instructor's background is crucial. Ensure the coaching team holds:
- A level 2 Certificate in Coaching Sport
- A 1st Dan Black Belt
- A DBS Check
- First aid qualifications
- Level 2 Safeguarding and PREVENT training
7. Paperwork and Etiquette:
Complete any necessary paperwork, such as the PARQ form, before beginning your trials. Embrace the traditional aspect of Taekwon-Do by showing respect to instructors and fellow students through customary bowing.
8. Class Frequency:
Start your journey by attending classes 2-3 times a week. As you progress, consider increasing your frequency based on your comfort and availability.
9. Progression in Taekwon-Do:
Achieve your milestones through grading tests, evaluating your proficiency in techniques, patterns, and other aspects of Taekwon-Do. Celebrate your achievements with certificates marking your progress.
10. Have Fun!
Every student began as a beginner, so don't hesitate to ask questions or seek help. Relish the camaraderie, enjoy the learning process, and have fun as you grow and progress in ITF Taekwon-Do.
Remember, it's not just a class; it's the beginning of a journey. Embrace the challenges, celebrate the victories, and enjoy every moment of your exciting venture into ITF Taekwon-Do at Worcestershire Martial Arts!
